The National Indoor Championships or the ‘All Irelands’ to those of us of a certain vintage, took place over the last 2 weekends in Athlone. This event is the pinnacle of the indoor season and athletes from all around the country who have won a medal in their provincial or Dublin championships qualify to attend. This year Cabinteely Athletic Club, having won 41 medals at the Dublin Championships had a huge attendance at nationals and we would like to give all our athletes a shout out for their great achievements on behalf of the club. While not all competed due to Championship timing or leaving certificate, earning the right to compete is fantastic and Cabinteely was really well represented at these championships.
We would like to congratulate the following athletes who qualified to compete at Nationals across a wide selection of Track and Field Events :- U12 – Joshua Holme and Darragh Devine. U14 – Amber Smith, Cillian Kelly, Ethan Carey, Griff Healy, Hayley Williamson, Holly Helme, Peter Brennan. U15- Alex Savage, David O’Donnell. U16 – Eva Munnelly, Liam O’ Shea. U17 – Daniel Makim, Tadhg Wong and Sarah Doherty. U18 – Ella Carey, Eva Kelly. U19 – Ruairi Myers. Congratulations also to our Relay Teams who qualified to compete at Nationals. U14 Boys – Ethan Carey, Cillian Kelly, Griff Healy Ben O’Byrne and Alex Brennan U15 Boys – Alex Savage, David O’Donnell, Hugo McHugh and Anton Biarozkin U17 Boys, Tadhg Wong, Cillian Kelly, Tiago Domingos, Denzel Mugri Daniel Makim and Bill Myers U18 Girls Ella Carey, Anna Grennan, Grace Cleary, Eva Kelly and Sarah Doherty.
The National Championships tool place over 2 weeks and in all the club came away with 7 National medals. There were also athletes who achieved PB’s and made finals and athletes who came away determined to keep training and perhaps achieve a medal on their next occasion. They are all a wonderful ambassador for our club at championship events and we are very proud of all their achievements.
National Medals U12 Athlete Joshua Holme won a trio of Medals, Gold in the 60m Sprint, Silver in Long Jump and Bronze in 600m. U14 Athlete Holly Helme won a silver in Shot Put U18 Athlete Ella Carey won a bronze in Shot Put and High Jump U17 Boys Relay Team won a bronze relay medal. Congratulations to all on their great achievements.
To wrap up we would like to acknowledge and thank all the team at Cabinteely club, the admin team who ensure everyone is entered and knows where they need to be, the coaches who get everyone ready to compete, our parents who cheer them all on, and a special thanks for Coach Noirin Kelly’s dad who took many of these photos and who was one of the coaches and founders of Ballybrack AC and whose grandson Josh now competes for the club.
